Estate Planning is always last on the to-do list

It is human nature to put things on a to-do list and "get around to it".

As an ex -dentist, I often saw the detrimental effects of putting things off and mostly, although more complicated, it was fixable.

Estate Planning is another thing that many put off until later. It is hard to think about our own mortality and the grief of loved ones. But, think instead about the added sadness and confusion if you die without one or if it is not up-to-date? Leaving it until it is too late is not an easy fix and it can be very costly too.

What we need is a priority list.

Years ago, I was asked to list my priorities and of course, my family was the clear winner at the top. Then, I was asked to list how I spent my time and energy each day. Wow, was that a reality check. All that energy spent taking care of things that were lower on my priority list.

So, in comes the priority list.

If keeping loved ones and family happy, healthy, safe and secure is a high priority, then estate planning has to be a priority too. What does your priority list look like?
